The Isenburg is a moated castle in Cologne-Holweide . It is located on Johann-Bensberg-Straße.

history

Isenburg was first mentioned in documents in 1364 and is one of the oldest settlements in Holweide. The current structure no longer corresponds to that of the time it was built. In 1983 the castle was sold to Bruno Wasser, who had the manor house, an extension and the moat extensively renovated. In addition, a condominium was built in the outer bailey. Haus Isenburg has been protected as an architectural monument since July 3, 1984 (under monument list number 2498). Between 1985 and 2011 part of the castle was used as a restaurant. The former restaurant area was then inhabited privately.

The castle complex consists of a manor house as the main castle and a tower, which were built on a raised island surrounded by moats, and the outer bailey, which consists of several buildings. The main castle can be reached via two bridges.

The square tower was built in the 16th century. It is made of brick and has an onion hood with a weather vane and dormer windows .

The three-story mansion was added to the tower in the classicist style in the 18th century . It includes a plastered facade with ashlar elements and dormer windows. The manor house is surrounded on two sides by a terrace that forms the forecourt. The outer bailey can be reached from the forecourt via a three-arched bridge.

The outer bailey consists of one and two-story plastered or brick buildings from the 19th century. These are built around a rectangular courtyard. One of the buildings is the "servants' house" with original room doors, windows and a wooden staircase.

A moat surrounds the main castle, one the castle grounds. The moats, the graves , are supplied by the Strunder Bach .
