Isidoro Carini (born January 7, 1843 in Palermo , † January 25, 1895 in Rome ) was an Italian historian and paleographer .

Life

Born as the son of Giacinto Carini (1821–1880) and his wife Concetta b. Testaferrata, he chose the clergy and was ordained priest in 1868. In 1873 Carini was one of the founders of the Società siciliana di Storia Patria . In 1876 he was appointed Professor of Paleography at the Archives School of the State Archives as the successor to Salvatore Cusa , with whom he had worked closely since joining the archives service in 1864 .

Isidoro Carini was the initiator of the Scuola Vaticana di Paleografia, Diplomatica e Archivistica (German: Vatican School for Paleography, Diplomatics and Archival Studies ), which was founded by Pope Leo XIII. was founded on May 1, 1884. In 1890 the priest of Pope Leo XIII. appointed custodian of the Vatican Apostolic Library .
