Isla Arena is a peninsula in the Gulf of Mexico in the Mexican state of Campeche . It belongs to the municipality of Calkiní , is about 3950 meters long and at its widest point about 315 meters wide. The zip code is 24919. On it is the place of the same name Isla Arena .

The peninsula is located on the northwest side of the Yucatán Peninsula and has a natural headland in the northern part that extends to the mainland. An artificial dike with a road in the south of the island is the only drivable land connection with the mainland.

Like all of the Yucatán, Isla Arena has no major elevations. The highest point on the island measures 5 meters above sea level . According to the 2010 census, 754 people on Isla Arena live in mostly poor social conditions. Most houses have electricity and a sewage connection.

Fishing is the main source of income for the local population.

Attractions

The coast consists almost entirely of mangroves . The peninsula is part of the Los Petenes nature reserve and there is a crocodile farm (La Casa del cocodrilo). There are no hotels on the island.
