Ismene (daughter of Asopus)
Ismene ( ancient Greek Ἰσμήνη ) is a Theban naiad in Greek mythology , the daughter of the river god Asopos .
In the myth it is genealogically linked to Io . On the one hand she is considered the wife of the Argive king Argos , mother of Iasos and thus grandmother of Io , on the other hand she is called the mother of the monster Argos , who at Heras's behest has to guard Io, who has been transformed into a cow. Their incorporation into the mythical Argive genealogy, like the incorporation of the eponymous Theban heroins into the Oidipus myth , was made late, so that a common origin is assumed for both.
On a relief in Naples , the three Charites can be found together with four nymphs , who are inscribed as Ismene , Kykais , Erann [o] and T [e] lonessos .
