Isobel Black (born December 15, 1943 in Edinburgh ) is a Scottish actress , internationally known for her roles in two films for the British Hammer production company .

Life

Isobel Black is the daughter of actress Ann Brooke and screenwriter Ian Stuart Black . The entertainment industry was a part of Isobel Black's life from the beginning, she started acting herself at the age of 15 and appeared in episodes of the television series Invisible Man and Sir Francis Drake of the production company ITC, for which her father revised the scripts. Her family's good relationships also helped her get a role at Regent's Park Open Air Theater as Miranda in William Shakespeare's The Tempest , which was produced by a family friend.

In the years that followed, she gained some prominence in the UK through many smaller roles on television. In 1962, it was then the recurring role in the hospital series Emergency Ward 10 as Lucy Marsden that Hammer drew attention to her. She got the role of Tanja in the 1963 published The Kiss of the Vampire .

Black continued to play regularly in television roles, e.g. B. in an episode of Mit Schirm, Charme und Melone and in 1967 in the role of Eileen O'Rourke in Troubleshooters . This was the role that made her most famous in her home country. During filming, she met director and producer James Gatward , whom she married in September 1969.

In 1971 she played the role of Ingrid Hoffer in Dracula's witch hunt . Even if it was a small role, this is her second Hammer production and is responsible for her current cult status as "Hammer Hottie".

In 1970, Isobel Black played the role of Margaret Trelawny in the episode The Curse of the Mummy of the television series Mystery and Imagination , based on the novel The Seven Fingers of Death (Original title: Jewel of the Seven Stars ) by Bram Stoker . She plays a double role as the reincarnation of an Egyptian princess. By chance, Hammer was simultaneously producing the film The Tomb of the Bloody Mummy , which is based on the same original. In the version of Hammer, Valerie Leon plays Black.

In the 1970s, Black took time off from acting and had three daughters. Since she was producing television programs with her father and husband at the time, she took the opportunity to travel extensively with her family to promote investments abroad. She rarely took on a role in one of these productions herself.

In the 1980s she appeared again more often on television, but not as successfully as in previous years. Her last role so far she played as Aunt Jane in the series The Castle of Adventure .

After a long hiatus, Black worked on a BBC radio show in 2004.
