Istvan Bury
István Bury (born January 11, 1937 in Medgyesegyháza , Kingdom of Hungary ) is a German television director of Hungarian descent.
Life
In 1954 he passed the Abitur examination in Budapest and in 1956 he began his studies at the Budapest Film School. After the Hungarian people's uprising in 1956 , in which he took an active part and its brutal suppression by the Soviet military intervention, he fled from Hungary to the Federal Republic of Germany that same year. From 1958 he studied at the University of Heidelberg (German studies), at the University of Hamburg (theater studies, German studies and journalism) and from 1960 at the Free University of Berlin . He has lived in Hamburg-Winterhude since 1964.

Bury gained his first professional experience as an assistant director in the film adaptation of Faust I by Gustaf Gründgens , at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg, at the Schiller Theater in Berlin with Hans Lietzau and at the Sender Freies Berlin (SFB) with Peter Beauvais .
His first major documentary films included Always Trouble with the Craftsmen , Orchestra Deaths , and - with Helmut Weiland - Jesuits, the secret elite . In 1965, Bury was granted German citizenship. Since 1964 he worked for the NDR as a director and author. In 1968 the collaboration with the author Helmut Weiland began with documentaries mainly for Radio Bremen . During his work, over 700 reports, film documentaries and television games were created for German television.
He made hundreds of longer documentaries, the best known of which were: The Beautiful and the Rich , The Power on the Rhine - Observations behind the scenes of the Rhenish Carnival , German Princely Houses , A man sees his city - Helmut Schmidt and Hamburg , The Dutch royal family , 98 Nobel Prize winners with Frank Elstner for ZDF . In 2002 he shot the 5-part TV production Majesty with Rolf Seelmann-Eggebert - for the Queen's golden jubilee . He received the Golden Camera in 1985 and the Bambi in 1992 . Istvan Bury has been awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon .
