István Huszár

István Huszár (born July 15, 1927 in Hernádkak , Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County ; † September 11, 2010 in Budapest ) was a Hungarian politician of the Party of Hungarian Working People MDP (Magyar Dolgozók Pártja) and finally the Hungarian Socialist Workers Party MSZMP (Magyar Szocialista Munkáspárt) , who was Vice-Prime Minister, President of the National Planning Office and the State Planning Commission between 1975 and 1980. On the XI. Party Congress on March 22, 1975 he was elected a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the MSZMP and was a member of this top management body of the Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party until March 27, 1980.

Huszár, the son of a day laborer , graduated from school after attending a college of education, which he graduated with a diploma in 1947. He then worked from 1948 to 1949, first as a librarian and then as a secretary at the National Alliance of Adult Education Centers NÉKOSZ (Népi Kollégiumok Országos Szövetsége) . He also studied political science and economics at the Karl Marx University of Economics MKKE (Marx Károly Közgazdaságtudományi Egyetem) and graduated with a diploma in 1951. While still a student, he joined the party of the Hungarian working people MDP (Magyar Dolgozók Pártja) in 1948 and was active as party secretary at the university for some time.

After completing his studies, he stayed at the MKKE, where he was first an intern and then a research assistant in the statistics department, before he worked in the party headquarters of the MDP and the Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party MSZMP (Magyar Szocialista Munkáspárt), which emerged from it after the popular uprising . first as a speaker and since 1961 as deputy head of the Central Committee's department for finance and trade.

On December 7, 1963 Huszár became deputy director of the Central Statistics Office KSH (Központi Statisztikai Hivatal) , before he became director of the KSH in January 1969 as the successor to György Péter himself with the rank of State Secretary . At the Xth Party Congress of the MSZMP he was elected a member of the Central Committee (ZK).

From June to November 1973 he was Vice-President of the National Planning Office (Országos Tervhivatal) as State Secretary , while József Bálint succeeded him as Director of the KSH. At the National Planning Office he became the closest collaborator of its then President György Lázár .

Vice-Prime Minister, Chairman of the State Planning Commission and Politburo member

On November 2, 1973 Huszár took over the office of vice-chairman of the Council of Ministers and was thus deputy of Prime Minister Jenő Fock until June 27, 1980 and György Lázár, who took over the office of Prime Minister on May 15, 1975. As Lázár's successor, he became President of the National Planning Office and Chairman of the State Planning Commission on May 15, 1975, and also held these functions until June 27, 1980. He was one of the first high-ranking Hungarian politicians to warn of growing economic difficulties early on and serious ones in the long term Predicted problems.

On the XI. Party Congress on March 22, 1975 he was elected a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the MSZMP and was a member of this top management body of the Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party until March 27, 1980. During this time he was also a member of the Economic Policy Committee of the MSZMP and between March 1975 and 1988 a member of the Central Committee for Economic Affairs.

After leaving the government he became director of the Social Science Institute of the MSZMP in July 1980 and then in 1988 director of the Institute for Party History of the MSZMP. On July 4, 1988 he also took over the function of General Secretary of the National Council of the Patriotic Popular Front HNF (Hazafias Népfront) , in which the mass organizations, social and cultural organizations of the People's Republic of Hungary were organized as an umbrella organization. He held this position until October 1989.

At the same time he was a member of the Committee for Agitation and Propaganda from June 1980 to July 1988 and at the same time between March 1985 and July 1988 the Education Policy Committee and most recently in December 1988 also a member of the Social Policy Committee of the MSZMP.

In the elections of June 8, 1980, he was elected for the first time as a Member of Parliament (Országgyűlés) and initially represented the 19th constituency of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County before he was on the reserve list of the patriotic in the October 8, 1988 elections Popular Front HNF was re-elected.
