history

The region largely untouched by the great events of Indian history belonged in the 15th century to the Sultanate of Malwa with the capital Mandu . The sultanate came to an end in 1531 when it was conquered by the Sultanate of Gujarat . In 1561 the area was integrated into the Mughal Empire by the Mughal Mughal Akbar I and came under the rule of the British in 1818 . The city of Itarsi itself only developed with the establishment of an important railway junction during the period of British colonial rule.

Attractions

The largely traditional city has no historically or culturally significant sights. In addition to several modern Hindu temples and mosques, there are also three Christian churches and a Gurdwara of the Sikhs.
