Itterburgen

Itterburgen is a term used since the Middle Ages for three castles , which were partly one after the other, partly at the same time in the area between the districts of Thalitter and Dorfitter (today's large municipality of Vöhl ) in Ittertal or to the east of it and belonged to the former Ittergau . It was named after its builders, the Lords of Itter . The three castles were:

The future owner of the rule Itter , Mr Wolff of Gudenberg later the Upper Castle Itter built that only about two kilometers east lies today Hofgut Lauterbach and the castle Vöhl and moved their residence there. The two castles in Lauterbach and Vöhl were subsequently also the residences of the brief rulership of Hessen-Itter , a paragium , but were never counted among the Itter castles.
