The Itztalbrücke is a bridge on the Autobahn 73 Suhl - Lichtenfels . The building is located in the upper Franken between locations Rödental and dörfles-esbach and spans with two superstructures the valley of the Itz with the railway line Coburg-Sonnenberg-Ernstthal Rennsteig and the Herzogsweg. The motorway bridge is about 25 m west of the parallel railway overpass of the Nuremberg – Erfurt high-speed line .

The pre- stressed concrete girder bridge is curved in plan and is 852 m long, making it the longest structure on Autobahn 73. The maximum height of the carriageway above the valley floor is 32 m. The motorway bridge was built from 2004 to mid-2007 at a cost of around 21 million .

Foundation and substructures

The abutments and pillars of the bridge are built on bored piles with a diameter of 1.3 m and a length of 15 to 31 m.

Superstructures

The two adjacent superstructures have the static system of a continuous girder with a box-girder cross-section and a constant construction height of 4.2 m. The prestressing consists of a mixed construction with 22 internal and 4 external tendons .

The total length for the 15-span bridge is 852 m. The two peripheral fields have a span of 49.0 m, the span of the 13 inner fields between them correspond with 58.0 m to the span of the parallel railway bridge. The resting point of movement is in the middle of the superstructures. The two central pillars each carry the horizontal forces from braking and starting.

execution

The bridge superstructure was carried out using the incremental launching method with 29 cycles per superstructure, with an additional shunting system being arranged on a pillar in the middle of the bridge due to the large bridge length and a gradient of 1.26%. Because of the horizontal forces from the displacement, the pillar was guyed. The clock cellar stood at the northern abutment. The eastern superstructure has a 3.5 m wider carriageway slab at the northern abutment due to the unthreading track for the Rödental exit. The widening of the cross-section in the last section of the cycle was carried out by subsequently setting in concrete a third bridge.
