Iván Manuel Nova Guance (born January 12, 1987 in San Cristóbal , Dominican Republic ) is a Dominican baseball player in the major league . He currently plays with the Detroit Tigers as a starting pitcher .
Nova was signed by the Yankees in 2004 as a free agent and used in the club's farm system . By the end of the 2008 season, however, he had advanced no further than the Tampa Yankees Class A Advanced Club. Therefore, he was elected in December 2008 by the San Diego Padres in the Rule 5 Draft . However, he returned to the Yankees at the end of Spring Training 2009 and was sent to the Double-A-Team Trenton Thunder, later to the Triple-A-Team Scranton / Wilkes-Barre Yankees . There he started the 2010 season .
On May 10, 2010 he was called up to the Major League and was able to reach three innings without runs in two games. However, after Chan Ho Park returned from the injured list, he was sent back to Scranton / Wilkes-Barre. Here he could show an impressive performance with a WL of 12-3 and an ERA of 2.86. On August 21, 2010 he was reassigned to the Yankees team to take the position of Javier Vázquez as starting pitcher. His first assignment as a starting pitcher in the MLB followed two days later. For the rest of the season he appeared in eight games, seven of them as a starter.
