Ivan Buljan (born December 11, 1949 in Runovići , Yugoslavia , today Croatia ), also Ivica Buljan , nickname Iko , is a former Croatian football player . He was a defender with an offensive urge and belonged to the so-called "golden generation" of the 1970s of the Hajduk Split club .

Career

Ivan Buljan played in youth with NK Mračaj ( Runovići ) and then moved to the first Yugoslav league in 1967 to Hajduk Split, where he was three times Yugoslav champion and four times Yugoslav cup winner. In 1975 he was voted Player of the Year by the Croatian daily Večernji list . From 1977 to 1981 he was under contract with Hamburger SV , for which he scored 22 goals in 103 Bundesliga games and won the German championship title in 1979 . He then played for New York Cosmos for a final year and ended his active career in 1982.

National team

Buljan played 36 times for the Yugoslav national football team . The first game he played on September 26, 1973 in Belgrade against Hungary , the last on November 29, 1981 in Athens against Greece .

He took part in the 1974 World Cup in Germany and the 1976 European Football Championship in Yugoslavia.
