Ivan Padovec (also Johann Padowetz ; born July 17, 1800 in Varaždin ; † November 4, 1873 ibid) was a Croatian guitarist and composer .

Life

Padovec lived in Vienna from 1829. Vienna was, along with Paris, a center of the early romantic guitar scene with guitarists such as Mauro Giuliani , Anton Diabelli and Wenzel Matiegka and renowned music publishers who also published international guitar literature. Hackl counts Padovec "among the most important composers of the guitar for the guitar at the end of its heyday in the 19th century."
