Ivan Palec

Ivan Palec (born April 11, 1933 in Hradec Králové , Czechoslovakia , † December 16, 2010 in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence , France ) was a Czech actor .

Life

Palec studied at the Theater Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (DAMU). He then played from 1957 to 1958 in the Divadlo Jiřího Wolkera Theater and from 1959 to 1962 in the Divadlo SK Neumanna Theater .

He had his first major role in 1959 in The Rehearsal Goes On As A Young Actor. In Zbyněk Brynych's award-winning agent film Smyk - The Abyss , Palec took on the role of Václav Král. His multi-layered portrayal of the doctor Mirek Vodák in Everywhere People Live by Zdeněk Štěpánek's side brought him his international breakthrough in 1960. This was followed by roles in the DEFA films For Eyes Only and Suitcase with Dynamite .

After the violent suppression of the Prague Spring in August 1968 by Warsaw Pact troops, Palec emigrated to France. There he studied history and philosophy at the Sorbonne in Paris . In addition to a few small roles such as in Just Jaeckin's The Last Romantic Lover , Palec was mainly active as a translator (including Václav Havel ) and director of a puppet theater.

He took his last film role in 1989 in Miloš Forman's literary adaptation Valmont . After the Velvet Revolution , Palec briefly returned to his homeland, where he directed the documentary television series Special Achievements of the Czechs and Slovaks .

Palec died on December 16, 2010 in Provence .
