Ivar Maenss

Hans Ivar Maenss (born November 1, 1908 in Casablanca , † June 28, 2003 in Senscheid ); was a German diplomat who was ambassador to Colombia between 1970 and 1973 .

Life

Maenss was already employed in the Foreign Service during the Third Reich in 1944 and returned to the Foreign Office after the war . In 1953 he served as a delegation counselor at the legation in Greece . In 1955 he was counselor at the embassy in Venezuela and was one of the closest employees of the ambassador at the time, Gerhart Weiz .

In 1964 he was first deputy head of department in the Foreign Office, before he was head of a department in the personnel department of the Foreign Office between 1966 and 1970.

In 1970 Maenns became ambassador to Colombia and thus successor to Joachim Schlaich , who in turn became head of the Foreign Policy Principles of Development Aid , Principles of Capital Aid and Guarantees in Foreign Trade and Capital Exports Department at the Foreign Office. He held the office of ambassador in Bogotá until 1973 and was then replaced by Robert von Förster , who was previously ambassador to Peru .
