The Iveco Turbotech was a heavy truck for regional / national distribution and was built between 1984 and 1993. He succeeded the renowned Iveco Turbo 190 . The TurboTech was the twin brother of the Iveco TurboStar, which was designed for long-haul journeys. Both had an identical cabin, but the TurboTech was less luxurious.

In addition to Italy and Ulm (Germany) for the European market, it was also built in Brazil and Argentina for the South American market. Specimens were also exported to Australia from Europe .

The first examples of the Iveco Turbotech were presented to the press in the summer of 1984. From a technical point of view, the Turbotech was a further development of the Turbo 190, although more than 2000 components were changed from the previous model. The first tests with the TurboStar began in September 1982. The first prototypes were tested on the Iveco Markbronn racetrack (Ulm), in Finland and on the former Fiat Nardo (Lecce, Italy). Iveco has paid particular attention to redesigning the cab and making it user-friendly, as well as reducing vibrations and noise. The aerodynamics were reduced to just 0.53. With the Turbotech, Iveco opened up a new benchmark in the field of heavy transport and offered a cheaper version of the Iveco TurboStar for short and medium distances. Although the development was carried out entirely by Iveco, it received the Fiat Turbotech logo on the lower right-hand grille. The manufacturer wanted to remind you of the Fiat 684 and Fiat 619 with the type H cab, which had been in use around the world since the 1970s and were the basis of the current cab. At the start there was the Turbotech turbocharged Fiat VI 6-cylinder 9.577 l and 17.174 l V8 engines. A ZF ECOSPLIT synchronized 16-speed transmission was used as the transmission. Anti-lock braking system was available as an option. In 1987 the Iveco six-cylinder in-line engine 13.798 l with 264 kW was used. Its output was increased to 277 kW in 1990. The Turbotech series is produced until 1993 and is replaced by the Iveco EuroTech .
