Ivonka Survilla ( Belarusian Івонка Сурвілла ; born April 11, 1936 in Stoubzy , Poland (now Belarus )) is a Belarusian politician and since 1997 the chairwoman of the Rada BNR , the government-in-exile of the Belarusian People's Republic .

biography

Ivonka Survilla was born in Stwobtsy in 1936. In 1944 she went into exile with her family in Denmark and France , where she spent most of her youth. Survilla also studied fine arts there at the L'Ecole nationale supérieure des beaux-arts . She later married the Belarusian Janka Survilla, with whom she moved to Spain . Survilla has two daughters with him, Hanna and Paulinka, who were both born in Madrid . In Spain she worked for a radio station from 1985 to 1995.

In 1969 she moved to Canada with her family . In 1974 Survilla became chair of the Belarusian Institute of Arts and Sciences in Canada. As a result of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster , she began to actively support the victims of the disaster. Survilla founded an association that provided medical aid and advocated the admission of people from the radioactive zone. In 1997, Ivonka Survilla was elected chairman of the Rada BNR.
