Ivanov started internationally in January 2005 at the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival in Monthey . There he took 11th place over 7.5 km classic, ninth place in the sprint and seventh place over 10 km freestyle. At the Junior World Ski Championships 2007 in Tarvisio , he won the silver medal in the relay and the gold medal in the sprint. He made his debut in the cross-country skiing world cup in October 2007 in Düsseldorf , which he finished in 31st place in the sprint. The following month he ran in Werschina Tjoi for the first time in the Eastern Europe Cup and achieved 65th place over 10 km freestyle. In the further course of the season he came with two top ten placements, including first place in the sprint in Krasnogorsk , eighth place in the overall ranking of the Eastern Europe Cup. In January 2008 he got his first World Cup points in Canmore with the 28th place in the sprint. Three days later, he achieved his first and only podium finish in the World Cup with second place in the sprint. This was followed by three results in the points and at the end of the season 54th place in the overall World Cup and 21st place in the Sprint World Cup. In the following season he achieved three top ten placements, including second place in the sprint in Rybinsk , seventh place in the overall ranking of the Eastern Europe Cup. At the U23 World Championships in 2009 in Taninges , he finished 13th in the sprint. In the following year he came in the U23 world championships in Hinterzarten on the 48th place over 15 km classic and on the 12th place in the sprint. His last race in the Eastern Europe Cup he completed in December 2010 in Krasnogorsk, which he finished in 12th place in the sprint.
