Ivan Mikhailov (General)
Iwan Michailow , complete Iwan Michailow Popow , Bulgarian Иван Михайлов (born February 22, 1897 in Ferdinand ; † May 16, 1982 ) was a Bulgarian officer with the rank of general and politician.
Life
During the Bulgarian September Uprising in 1923 he led an armed division. After the uprising was suppressed, he was sentenced to death in absentia. In 1925 he went into exile in the Soviet Union . There he graduated from the Military Technical Academy in Leningrad . From 1941 to 1945 he fought on the side of the Soviet Union in World War II . In 1945 he returned to Bulgaria. From 1950 to 1971 he was deputy chairman of the Bulgarian Council of Ministers . From 1954 he was a member of the Central Committee and the Politburo of the Bulgarian Communist Party . In 1957/58 he was Bulgaria's Minister of Transport and Telecommunications, and from 1958 to 1962 Minister of Defense. From 1971 he was a member of the State Council .
Mikhailov was awarded the Order of Lenin , the Order of Georgi Dimitrov and as a Hero of the People's Republic of Bulgaria .
