János Csonka

János Csonka (* 1852 in Szeged , Hungary ; † 1939 in Budapest ) was a Hungarian inventor and is considered to be Hungary's "father of the automobile industry".

In 1874 he examined the engine of Étienne Lenoir in Paris . From 1875 he was the head of the machine shop at the Technical University in Budapest . His specialty was engine development. In 1879 he presented his gas engine.

Together with Donát Bánki , in 1892/93 he developed carburettors for generating the gasoline-air mixture for gasoline engines. He also developed an auto-igniter for gas and petroleum engines , a motorized tricycle for postmen and a portable chainsaw . He worked closely with the Ganz company .
