Central Coast AVA
Central Coast AVA (recognized October 24, 1985) is a wine-growing region in the US state of California . The vineyards of the huge area extend from Santa Barbara County in the south to the San Francisco Bay Area in the north. As part of the efforts to introduce the term terroir in California, an abundance of sub-regions with more clearly defined growing conditions have been established in the meantime.
Although a large number of different grape varieties were planted, Chardonnay dominated the grape variety with almost 50 percent.
Counties
According to American law, each county is a protected designation of origin in terms of viticulture. The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau therefore did not need to recognize the following counties in separate proceedings:
- Contra Costa County
- Monterey County
- San Luis Obispo County
- Santa Barbara County
- Santa Clara County
- Santa Cruz County
