San Francisco Bay AVA (recognized since January 20, 1999) is a wine-growing region in the US state of California . The area is located in the southern part of the San Francisco Bay Area and includes the administrative areas of Alameda County , Contra Costa County , Santa Clara County , San Francisco County and San Mateo Counties, as well as sub-areas of the Santa Cruz County and San Benito County administrative areas . The area of ​​the 1999 founded appellation is east of the Santa Cruz Mountains AVA and in the northern extension of the Monterey AVA . The over 630,000 hectare region is part of the parent Central Coast AVA and is divided into four sub-regions: Livermore Valley AVA , Pacheco Pass AVA , San Ysidro District AVA and Santa Clara Valley AVA .
