Santa Clara Valley AVA (recognized since March 28, 1989) is a wine-growing region in the US state of California . The area is in the administrative area of Santa Clara County . The region is part of the superordinate Central Coast AVA and San Francisco Bay AVA , but is also divided into two subzones, Pacheco Pass AVA and San Ysidro District AVA .

In the early days of the history of viticulture in California , the region played a pioneering role and the winemakers Paul Masson and Charles Lefranc in particular provided important impulses for the success of the viticulture industry.

The development of the wine-growing region was slowed down by the booming industry of Silicon Valley and the associated conversion of vineyards into building land. Today the majority of the planted vineyards can be found in the west of the Santa Cruz Mountains near the city of San José .
