Hames Valley AVA (recognized since March 25, 1994) is a wine-growing region in the US state of California . The area is located in the eastern part of the administrative area of Monterey County and is part of the parent Central Coast AVA and the Monterey AVA . The area is on the slopes of the Santa Lucia Range at the southern end of the Salinas Valley . The soil consists mainly of slate and clay . The climate is usually warmer than within the Monterey AVA. Apart from the classic grape varieties of Bordeaux such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot can also find varieties for the production of the Portuguese port wine serve as Tinto Cão and Touriga Nacional.

Further south, the designations of origin Paso Robles AVA and York Mountain AVA follow.
