location

The vineyards are spread over the administrative district of San Luis Obispo County and are located in the eastern part of the Santa Lucia Mountains , west of the designation of origin Paso Robles AVA . Further north is the Hames Valley AVA wine region . The vineyards are located at an altitude of approx. 450 m above sea level. NN , only 11 km from the Pacific Ocean . As a result, the cooling mists and sea breezes of the ocean can have a moderating effect on the climate . The climate of York Mountain is therefore cooler and also more humid than that of Paso Robles further east.

The recognition as a designation of origin can be traced back to a petition from the York Mountain Winery , which has been producing wine commercially since 1882.
