János Galambos (1987)

János Galambos (born September 1, 1940 in Zirc , Hungary ; † December 19, 2019 ) was a Hungarian mathematician who mainly worked in the field of probability theory and mathematical statistics .

Live and act

János Galambos studied mathematics from 1958 to 1963 at the Loránd Eötvös University in Budapest. In 1963 he obtained his master’s degree . In the same year he received his doctorate with Alfréd Rényi .

From 1964 to 1965 he worked as a research assistant at the Loránd Eötvös University. From 1965 to 1969 he was a lecturer at the University of Ghana and from 1969 to 1970 at the University of Ibadan in Nigeria . From 1970 he was a professor at Temple University in Philadelphia.

János Galambos was married to Eva M. geb. Santa and lived in Willow Grove , Pennsylvania , United States .
