Count Hans Reinhold von Fersen (born March 2, 1683 in Tallinn , † May 25, 1736 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish lieutenant general and politician of German Baltic origin.

Life

He was the son of Count Reinhold Johan von Fersen and his wife, Countess Anna Sophia von Ungern-Sternberg , who also came from the German-Baltic nobility . Reinhold Johan, a military man and statesman in the Swedish service, was raised to the status of count in Sweden in 1712 for his services and, after Estonia fell under Russian sovereignty in 1710 , he was finally relocated from Estonia to Sweden.

Fersen served in the Swedish army and was promoted to lieutenant general in 1720. In 1731 he was appointed President of Svea hovrätt , the first and still largest of the six appellate courts in Sweden. The court was founded in 1614 as the first Swedish court of its kind and until the establishment of the Högsta domstolen in 1789 was the highest court instance under the king and the imperial council .

Marriage and descendants Fersen married Countess Eleonora Margareta Wachtmeister (1684–1748), daughter of the royal councilor and later Field Marshal Axel Wachtmeister (1643–1699) in 1715 . This is how Mälsåker Castle came to his family. The marriage resulted in two sons and a daughter, including Fredrik Axel von Fersen (1719–1794).
