Jörg Franke (engineer)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jörg Franke (born April 30, 1964 in Erlangen ) is a German engineering scientist . Since 2009 he has headed the Chair for Factory Automation and Production Systematics (FAPS) at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU).

Life

Franke graduated from 1983 to 1989 with a degree in production engineering at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, where he graduated as a graduate engineer. He then obtained his doctorate from 1989 to 1995 as a research assistant at the chair for factory automation and production systematics with Klaus Feldmann as a Dr.-Ing. From 1995 to 1997 he was a project manager at McKinsey & Company and completed his in-house commercial training as a Master of Business Administration. At Robert Bosch GmbH in Gerlingen he then worked from 1997 to 1999 a. a. in charge of the company's Japan strategy. In 2000 he took over the Pumps division at ZF Lenksysteme (ZFLS) GmbH in Schwäbisch Gmünd , where he was responsible for 1700 employees at six production sites worldwide with a turnover of around 400 million euros. Until 2004 he was promoted to the top management team at ZF Friedrichshafen AG .

In 2005 he was a member of the management team for the Asia / Pacific region at Schaeffler KG in Herzogenaurach and Shanghai . With the functional responsibility for development and engineering, he was a. responsible for the management of all country CEOs as well as for 5000 employees at ten production sites.

From 2006 to 2009 Franke headed the company ABM Greiffenberger Antriebstechnik GmbH in Marktredwitz as chairman of the management board . As CEO and CFO, he was responsible for the production of electric drives with 700 employees in five plants as well as at six foreign subsidiaries and a total turnover of approx. 95 million euros.

In 2009 he returned to the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg as a full professor at the chair for factory automation and production systematics. Under his leadership, the chair grew to more than 80 employees in 2013.

Scientific work

During his time as a research assistant at the FAPS chair, Franke headed the electronics production group as chief engineer. In 1993 he became the first managing director of the Research Association for Spatial Electronic Assemblies (3-D MID), which he has headed as CEO since 2010 and thereby coined the term Mechatronic Integrated Devices.

As a full professor, he realigns research. The aim is to make the FAPS chair a recognized teaching and research facility for automation technology and mechatronic systems, which serves human well-being through interdisciplinary development and holistic optimization. He divided the chair into five research groups with a focus on electrical engineering, electronics production, biomechatronics, system engineering and resource-saving and intelligent living.
