Jörg Graff

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jörg Graff (* around 1480 in Dachsbach ; † May 26, 1542 in Nuremberg ) was a " Landsknecht - Poet " and banter .

After an apprenticeship as a Gürtler or Beutler, he hired himself as a mercenary in Maximilian I's army . Obviously, he also came to Nuremberg because he lost his eyesight there in an apartment fire . From that time on he earned his living as a blind songwriter and banter, although he must have had a reputation, as the city council gave him a silver shield to show his street singer status and protected his lyrics against reprint.

In the death books of the Heilig-Geist-Spital there is an entry on May 26th, 1542 about "blind Jörg von Dachspach".

Works

So far, 20 of his songs are known. They deal with historical topics, spiritual content and folk morality.
