Jörg Heckenbach

Jörg Heckenbach (born November 28, 1974 in Düsseldorf ) is a former German American football player.

career

Heckenbach played in the Football Bundesliga from 1992 to 1994 with the Düsseldorf Panthers , with whom he became German champions in 1994. From 1995 to 1998 the 1.90 meter wide receiver was in the service of the Cologne Crocodiles . During his time with the Braunschweig Lions (1999 to 2003) he won the German championship title in 1999 and the Eurobowl in the same year and again in 2003 . During these years, Heckenbach not only played for Braunschweig in the Bundesliga, but also in the World League of American Football and NFL Europe : in 1997 and 1998 he was under contract with Frankfurt Galaxy , and from 1999 to 2004 with Berlin Thunder . In 2001, 2002 and 2004 he won the World Bowl with Berlin . In 2003 he was part of the training squad of the NFL team Green Bay Packers , and at the end of July 2003 he was diagnosed with kidney failure after Heckenbach, exhausted from the journey, collapsed during a training session. He then had to stay in hospital for a week, before the start of the NFL season, he was removed from the squad by Green Bay. In the summer of 2004 he played again for a team from the NFL and received a training contract from the Cleveland Browns . However, he did not succeed in making the final squad.

In the Bundesliga, Heckenbach reinforced the Berlin Adler in the 2005 season , from 2006 to 2008 he again wore the colors of the Braunschweig Lions and won the German championship three times in a row.

With the German national team, he finished second in the European Championship in 2000 and European Champion in 2001. In 2005 he won gold with the national team at the World Games in Duisburg , and at the 2007 World Cup he came third with Germany.

In 2008 Heckenbach was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf . After the end of his playing career, in 2009 he worked for the Braunschweig Lions in the acquisition and support of sponsors. While playing as a player, he already worked in the commercial area for a Brunswick fitness studio, later as a fitness trainer he looked after professional soccer player Karim Bellarabi and other athletes, he also worked as a speaker and as a consultant for sport, motivation, nutrition and marketing.
