Jörg Kühn

Jörg Kühn (born July 1, 1952 in Rennerod ) is a German architect and university professor .

Life

From 1973 Kühn studied architecture (sociology as a minor) at the Technical University of Darmstadt (THD), among others with Günter Behnisch , Walter Belz and Max Bächer . In 1980 he received his diploma from Helmut Striffler , at whose chair at the THD he worked as a scientific assistant with a focus on design and building theory until 1985. Until 1990 he was a lecturer for building construction and design at the chairs of Walter Belz and Peter Steiger.

In 1993 he was offered a full professorship at the chair for design, building science and interior design at the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus (BTU) in Cottbus . He teaches in the Bachelor and Master courses of the Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Urban Planning as well as in the postgraduate, international course World Heritage Studies (WHS). From 1996 to 2000, as Vice President (Vice President), he was responsible for the structural expansion of the university campus on today's Universitätsstrasse. During this time, among other things, the IKMZ (Information, Communication and Media Center) was built as the university's library by the renowned Swiss firm Herzog & de Meuron . As a member of the rectorate, council, senate and board of trustees of the university, Jörg Kühn had a decisive influence on the structure of the university. The State University of Architecture and Building Art of Saint Petersburg awarded him an honorary doctorate in 1996 .

He accompanies visiting professorships at this university and at the Politecnico di Milano (Italy). He has been involved in the rheinkolleg eV in Speyer for many years.

He has been running his own architectural office in Darmstadt since 1982. In the following years he had project-related partnerships, among others with the Architects' Forum and Juha Ilmari Leiviskä , Helsinki (Finland).

The focus of the work is on projects in humane penal systems, administrative buildings, renovations and existing buildings . Important areas of work are also furniture and industrial design , such as the development of dealer tables and trading systems (trading areas) for banks and stock exchanges worldwide, in cooperation with the Norbert Stadler company in Offenbach. In addition to his construction and teaching activities, Jörg Kühn is a specialist judge in architecture and urban planning competitions.
