Jörg Klein (Admiral)

Jörg Klein (born July 3, 1961 in Bad Pyrmont ) is a flotilla admiral of the German Navy and the deputy commander in the operational command of the Bundeswehr in Geltow .

Military career

Training and first uses

Klein joined the German Navy in 1980 and completed his training as a naval officer with Crew VII / 80 . He graduated from the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg with a degree in education. In January 1985 he was transferred to the destroyer flotilla , in which he completed all subsequent on-board assignments. Among other things, he was an artillery officer on the destroyers " Bayern " and " Hessen ", as well as ship operations officer on the destroyer " Hamburg " and the frigate " Niedersachsen ". From 1993 to 1995, Klein took part in the 35th admiralty staff course at the command and control academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg.

Service as a staff officer

Klein served as the first officer of the frigate " Lübeck " and was the commander of the frigate " Bayern " from 2004 to 2006 . From April to November 2005 he was "Flag Captain" with the commander of the Standing NATO Maritime Group 1 .

His land uses included positions in the command staff of the Navy ( Federal Ministry of Defense ) in Bonn , the international military staff at NATO headquarters in Brussels, at the command academy of the German armed forces in Hamburg and in the command and control command of the German armed forces in Geltow near Potsdam . His last assignment as a staff officer was as a division head in the planning department of the Federal Ministry of Defense.

Service as an admiral

From June 25, 2015 to June 19, 2016, Klein was in command of the Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 . In this role, from February 2016, he also led NATO activities in the Aegean in the context of the refugee crisis . He then worked in the Bundeswehr Operations Command, where he took over the duties of Chief of Staff on January 1, 2017. In March 2020, Klein became the successor to Major General Thorsten Poschwatta , Deputy Commander in the Bundeswehr Operations Command in Geltow.

Private

Flotilla Admiral Klein is married and has two grown children.
