Jörg Ott

Jörg Ott (born April 22, 1942 in Vienna ) is an Austrian marine biologist .

Live and act

Jörg Ott began studying zoology , botany and geography at the University of Vienna , where he received his doctorate in 1969. This was followed by postgraduate studies at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill , United States , where he worked with Rupert Riedl , who was then a professor of zoology there. In 1972 Ott returned to the University of Vienna, where he completed his habilitation in 1982 after working as an assistant for several years . He retired as an associate professor in 2007.

Jörg Ott has been a board member and vice-president of the Haus des Meeres since 1993 . For this, he and his colleagues Alfred Radda and Michael Mitic were awarded the Golden Medal of Merit of the State of Vienna in 2015.

In 1997 Ott became a corresponding member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences .

From 2005 to 2013, Ott was a councilor for the Greens in Wolfsgraben, Lower Austria .
