Jörg Schorer

Jörg-Ralph Schorer (born March 12, 1972 ) is a German sports scientist and university lecturer .

Life

Schorer attended primary school in Hirschberg-Leutershausen until 1982 , and in 1991 he passed his Abitur at the Kurpfalz-Gymnasium in Schriesheim . In the fall of 1991, he began studying sports, sports science and geography at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg . In November 1998 he passed his first state examination. During his studies, Schorer worked as a student assistant at the Institute for Sport and Sport Science (ISSW) and at the Geographical Institute of the University of Heidelberg.

From September 1999 to July 2001 he worked as a trainee lawyer at the Werner-Heisenberg-Gymnasium in Weinheim and at the Hebel-Gymnasium in Schwetzingen and passed his second state examination. In addition to the subjects of sport and geography, Schorer had completed further training in the subjects of ethics and German as a foreign language. During his legal clerkship he remained active as a research assistant at the ISSW and continued this work after the second state examination, from August 2002 as a research assistant in the "Movement and Training" department under Klaus Roth . During this time he wrote his doctoral thesis in sports and sports science, which he completed in January 2007. During his time in Heidelberg, he worked on research projects on the subjects of "sensorimotor integration", "anticipation as a predictor for the talent scouting of hockey goalkeepers and their development into adolescence", "development of supplementary screening tests in handball - performance motivation and anticipation as predictors" , "Eye movements in handball goalkeepers depending on the environment and motor skills" and "Formative evaluation of the medium and short-term perception training for goalkeepers and penalty corner specialists of the field hockey national teams of the German Hockey Association in preparation for the Olympic Games in Athens 2004". In September 2006, Schorer had already switched to the Institute for Sports Science at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster as a research assistant , and was one of Bernd Strauss's employees in the sports psychology department . In July 2010, Schorer completed his habilitation in Münster  and worked as an academic councilor at the University of Münster, from January 2013 as an academic senior counselor in the field of sports psychology. In cooperation with Strauss in Münster, Schorer was involved in research work on the subjects of “visual information acquisition and attention in sport”, as well as “evaluation and further development of the talent detection concept of the German Handball Federation”.

In May 2013 Schorer took up a professorship for “Sport and Exercise” at the Institute for Sport Science at the Carl von Ossietzky University in Oldenburg . In spring 2019 he was elected spokesman for the sports motor skills section of the German Association for Sports Science.

His research focuses on aspects of exercise science, sports psychology and sports science working methods. He deals with handball and other ball games, referee decisions in handball, talent scouting and prognosis, gaze behavior, and competitive sports in old age.
