Jörg Skriebeleit

Jörg-Ulrich Skriebeleit (* 1968 in Vohenstrauß ) is a German cultural scientist .

Life

Skriebeleit grew up in his hometown Vohenstrauß and now lives in Weiden in the Upper Palatinate .

He studied empirical cultural studies and European ethnology at the University of Tübingen and the Humboldt University in Berlin . At the Center for Research on Antisemitism at TU Berlin , he did his doctorate on the Flossenbürg site of remembrance , on which he has been working since 1996. Since December 1999 he has been the head of the Flossenbürg Concentration Camp Memorial. He wrote about the history of the camp and initiated a fundamental redesign of the memorial. For a lived culture of remembrance and a tolerant, cosmopolitan society, he is also involved in the campaign alliance “Weiden ist bunt”.

Awards

In 2013 Skriebeleit was honored with the Cross of Merit on Ribbon for his commitment . In 2014 the memorial was nominated for the European Museum Prize. On December 9, 2016, the President of the Bavarian State Parliament, Barbara Stamm , presented him with the Bavarian Constitutional Medal in silver.
