Jörn-Peter Schmidt-Thomsen

Jörn-Peter Schmidt-Thomsen (born September 13, 1936 in Detmold , † December 19, 2005 in Berlin ) was a German architect and university professor .

Life

Schmidt-Thomsen studied architecture at the Technical University of Berlin (TU Berlin). In 1966 he became ibid with the work " Floreale and futuristic architecture: the work of Antonio Sant'Elia " doctorate . He later completed his habilitation at the TU Berlin. This was followed by stays abroad and scholarships in the USA , India and Sri Lanka .

In 1972 he was appointed professor at the Technical University of Berlin on the chair of building science and design, and later he was also dean of the department. Schmidt-Thomsen was visiting professor at Ball State University (USA), Tongji University in Shanghai (China) and at Ki Song Koo University in Seoul (Korea). In 2001 he retired.

In 1966, together with his wife Helga Schmidt-Thomsen, he founded an architecture office (later: Schmidt-Thomsen & Ziegert), which has implemented numerous projects at home and abroad, for example the radio complex of the ORB Potsdam-Babelsberg.

In 2002 Schmidt-Thomsen became President of the Berlin Chamber of Architects .

Jörn-Peter Schmidt-Thomsen died unexpectedly on December 19, 2005 at the age of 69 in Berlin. Just a few days before his death, he had got involved in the urban development debate in Berlin and advocated careful handling of striking buildings such as the Deutschlandhalle and ICC .

The grave of Jörn-Peter Schmidt-Thomsen is in the state-owned cemetery Heerstraße in Berlin-Westend (grave location: II-Wald-21f).
