Jørgen Leth
Jørgen Leth (born June 14, 1937 in Aarhus ) is a Danish filmmaker and poet.
Jørgen Leth studied literature and anthropology in Aarhus and Copenhagen . From 1959 to 1968 he worked for various Danish newspapers as a music, theater and film critic. Extensive world trips to Africa, South America, India and Southeast Asia followed. More than 40 films have been made since 1963, including the short film The Perfect Person from 1967. This is one of the favorite films of Lars von Trier and forms the basis for his film The Five Obstructions . Between 1988 and 2005 he was a sports reporter for the Tour de France for Danish television, and he also made several sports documentaries.
Leth has taught at the Danish Film School in Copenhagen, the State Studiocenter in Oslo , UCLA , Berkeley and Harvard. From 1999 to 2007 he was Danish Honorary Consul in his adopted home Haiti , where he has lived since 1991.
Jørgen Leth is the father of director Asger Leth .
