Jewish elementary school (Diersburg)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Jewish elementary school in Diersburg , a district of the municipality of Hohberg in the Ortenaukreis in Baden-Württemberg , was an elementary school that was founded in 1830. It was maintained by the Diersburg Jewish Community . The Baden Jewish edict of 1809 allowed the Jewish communities to build their own schools, provided they covered the costs.

The school was at Strittmatt 4. Above the entrance of the former school building there is still a Hebrew inscription that translates as: Bring the end of our liberation and our redemption (with the Hebrew year for 1826).

The Jewish elementary schools were dissolved with the introduction of simultaneous schools in the Grand Duchy of Baden in 1876. The Jewish school in Diersburg continued as a religious school until the end of the 1920s.
