Jewish cemetery (Beilstein)
The Beilstein Jewish Cemetery is a Jewish cemetery in Beilstein , a municipality in the Cochem-Zell district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It is a protected cultural monument . The cemetery is located on the south ridge of the Burgberg high above the Moselle.
history
The Jewish cemetery in Beilstein was probably laid out in the 17th century. It also served as a burial place for the Jewish families from Bruttig , Ediger-Eller , Bremm , Senheim and Mesenich . The oldest still legible tombstone is from 1818 (Rafael, son of Moshe, died on November 10, 1818). The last burial took place in 1938.
The cemetery was desecrated and partly cleared during the Nazi era . After 1945 the tombstones were put back up, some of them not in their original location.
In the cemetery with an area of 14.05 ares there are still around 110 tombstones .
