Jürg Marquard grew up as the son of a dentist in Urdorf, where he also went to school. He was already active as a journalist during his school days. After graduating from the commercial high school of the canton school in Zurich , he launched the youth magazine Pop in 1965 with start-up capital borrowed from school friends of CHF 2,000 , thus laying the foundation for his career as a publisher and entrepreneur. In addition to his work on setting up the youth magazine Pop , Jürg Marquard also worked as a radio and television presenter in the pop area.
After the founding period, in which Jürg Marquard edited Pop himself, the magazine became increasingly commercial and, after various mergers with other German youth magazines, established itself as Pop / Rocky as the second largest German youth magazine after Bravo . In 1998 Pop / Rocky was merged with the publisher's own youth and music magazine Popcorn , which had established itself as the international umbrella brand for the youth magazine sector of the Marquard Media Group.
Marquard's breakthrough in the German-speaking magazine market came in 1981 with Cosmopolitan magazine .
