Jürgen Barth (basketball player)

Jürgen "Jogi" Barth (* 1957 ) is a German basketball functionary as well as a former player and trainer.

career

As a player (position: play structure), Barth rose  to the regional league with the men's team of TV Langen in 1976, while coaching youth teams and sometimes also the club's second men's team. In 1978 he contributed as a player to the second division ascent of the TVL men. He acted as team captain, in 1981 he rose to the basketball league with Langen , but immediately relegated. In the spring of 1984, the TVL separated from its coach Frank di Leo , Barth initially took over the position as player- coach . Due to hip problems, he had to step back as a player at the age of 26 and increasingly concentrated on the task of coach. With a season record of 22 wins in 27 games, Barth led the TVL 1984/85 to promotion to the first division, where he also coached them until they were relegated in 1988. In 1987 he was in charge of the German national student team as a trainer at the Universiade in Zagreb .

In 1989, Barth managed to direct the team to direct promotion back to the Bundesliga. In 1990, however, the relegation in the first division was missed, Barth gave up his coaching post for professional reasons, he took a position at the German Sports Association (DSB). He stayed with the TVL as a long-time manager of the Bundesliga team or chairman of the Bundesliga organization team and as a youth coach. In the second half of the 93/94 season and in the spring of 1999 he stepped in again as a coach of the men's team. At the DSB he was initially a consultant for anti-doping issues, and later a competitive sports consultant.

As a coach of the Langen team in the youth basketball league (NBBL), Barth was honored as "Coach of the Year" in the 2007/08 NBBL season. In March 2015, in addition to his duties as a manager, he took over the interim coaching position for the TVL men's team (then in the 2nd Bundesliga ProB ) until the end of the season . In 2015, as a representative of the German Olympic Sports Confederation , he was a member of a joint elite sports competence committee of the German Basketball Association , the basketball league, the 2nd basketball league and the regional associations, which advised the leagues and associations.

His sons Sebastian Barth (* 1985), Kai Barth  (* 1989) and Nico Barth (* 1992) all played for the TVL in the 2nd Bundesliga ProA .
