Sebastian Barth (born January 31, 1985 in Offenbach am Main ) is a former German basketball player . Barth played for various teams in the 2nd basketball league and was also a member of the first division team Skyliners Frankfurt in the 2003/04 basketball league , which was German champions that season . In 2010 he won the championship of the second highest division, 2nd Bundesliga ProA , with the BBC Bayreuth, as well as the last national DBB men's cup competition, which, however, was already held without a top division team.

Career

player

Barth began his career in the youth teams of the former first division team TV 1862 from Langen . After he was promoted to the men's team in the 2nd basketball league , he was also included in the squad of the first division club Opel Skyliners from Frankfurt am Main by means of a double license , for which he played in the first round match against Brandt Hagen in the 2003/04 season the highest German league. The Frankfurters, for whom Barth had no further commitment, became German champions at the end of the season and replaced series champions Alba Berlin . Since reunification in 1990, they were also only the third club to win a men's championship title. Barth's only season appearance with almost two minutes of playing time was taken out of the ranking after the bankruptcy of the Hagen team. In the following season as well as in the ULEB Euroleague , junior national player Barth was no longer used for the Frankfurt team. With the second division from Langen, Barth achieved a fifth place in the South Group in 2006, a fourth place in the 2006/07 2nd basketball division and was named Youngster of the Month in April 2007 in the South Group. For the following season 2007/08, the previous geographical structure of the 2nd basketball league was given up in favor of a hierarchical structure and the Langener reached a ninth place in the table with Barth in what is now the second highest division ProA 2007/08 .

After 14th and third from last place in the table in the ProA 2008/09 , Barth left the Langen team, in which his four years younger brother Kai Barth had moved up, and in 2009 switched to league rivals BBC from Bayreuth , whose predecessor club Steiner Bayreuth was the last men's champion in 1989 before the serial champions Bayer Giants Leverkusen and Alba Berlin. The Bayreuth, which had failed in the early season in third place just wide of the ascent, gained in the ProA 2009/10 the championship in this division and also the time being last national men's cup competition in 2010 the DBB , but this was resolved without the teams of the top division . At the BBC, Barth's average playing time was halved to a good 13 minutes per game, so that he left the promoted team at the end of the season and moved to the third division from Nuremberg in the ProB . The former first division team, however, missed the athletic promotion to the ProA in the play-off semi- finals of the ProB 2010/11 , where he failed at the Ehingen Steeples, who achieved the championship and promotion to the ProA. As a successor, the Nuremberg finally played in the ProA 2011/12 , in which they reached a twelfth place in the table as a newcomer. Barth, however, then switched again to the ProB and returned to his home club in Langen in 2012, where his average game shares almost doubled to almost 30 minutes per game. In the play-offs for promotion, the Langeners failed in the decisive semi-final series of the ProB 2012/13 at the Schwelmer Baskets , which, however, waived promotion for economic reasons. A year later, the Langen giraffes were eliminated in the first play-off round of ProB 2013/14 against the later play-off winner BAWE Oldenburger TB .

At the ProA 2014/15 , Barth moved up one league again and joined the Steeples from Ehingen , who, however, were relegated after a third main round place in 2014 in the 2014/15 season. He started the 2015/16 season with ProB league club Elchingen, but left the club during the season and returned to TV Langen (now the first regional league).

Trainer

In February 2017 he was temporarily until the end of the 2016/17 season coach of the U19 team in the Ehingen / Urspring syndicate in the youth basketball league .
