Jürgen Beneke (born February 23, 1972 ) is a former German cyclist in the mountain bike discipline downhill . In 1993 he won the first World Cup in this discipline.

Career

Beneke started cycling at the age of twelve , originally in the disciplines of street and cross-country .
In 1992 he discovered the mountain bike and won all stages of the Tour de Suisse for mountain bikers. In the following year, he won the first Downhill World Cup , which, however, was to remain his greatest international success.

In the following years Beneke became German champion three times, and in the World Cup he won four individual races. In the overall standings of the Downhill World Cup, he came second twice. He was Vice European champion , won at the X Games and the US Championships, but he remained medals at mountain bike world championships denied.

In 2000, at the age of 28, Jürgen Beneke ended his career . Inspired by an involvement in a commercial, he started again in 2007 without training in a World Cup race in Canada , in which he immediately finished 17th.
