Jürgen Bredenkamp

Jürgen Bredenkamp (born March 29, 1939 in Hamburg ) is a professor emeritus for general psychology at the University of Bonn . His main focus is memory , language and perception psychology .

Life

From 1958 he first studied law, then psychology, physiology and philosophy. In 1964 he received his doctorate from the University of Hamburg on the experimental psychological analysis of the flicker fusion frequency as an indicator of fatigue . In 1971 he completed his habilitation at the University of Heidelberg with a paper on the justification of statistical inference methods in experimental general psychology .

Services

He taught at the Universities of Bonn (1972), Göttingen (1972) and Trier (1980). He turned down a call to Bochum in 1975. From 1984 until his retirement in 2004 he stayed at the University of Bonn.

In his work he deals with methodology, general and social psychology. His deductivist theory of experiment influenced many of his students. In his later research, the topics language and memory are in the foreground (working memory and slip of the tongue; integration of various memory psychological hypotheses; multinomial modeling of controlled, automatic and response tendency processes; schema memory).

He examined the arithmetic artist Gert Mittring more closely and explained his extraordinary arithmetic skills using general principles of cognitive psychology.

From 1984 to 1992 Bredenkamp was a member of the Expert Committee on Psychology at the German Research Foundation , from 1990 to 1992 he was President of the German Society for Psychology , 1991 President of the Federation of German Psychological Associations , and from 1992 to 1994 Vice President of the German Society for Psychology.
