Jürgen Engel (politician)

Jürgen Engel (born August 20, 1947 in Witzenhausen ; † August 14, 2018 ) was a German politician ( Die Grünen ) and a member of the Hessian state parliament .

After an industrial clerk apprenticeship, Jürgen Engel worked as an industrial and export clerk in the chemical industry from 1970 to 1979.

Jürgen Engel has been politically active since 1974. Among other things, he worked in the socialist office in Offenbach , as a works council and member of the chemical-paper-ceramic union and was one of the initiators of the first green alternative voter participation in Hesse and, in 1978, the Hesse Green List. In 1979/1980 he was a co-initiator of Rock gegen Rechts and the popular initiative against Startbahn 18 West . Jürgen Engel had been a member of the Greens since January 1980.

According to the rotation principle of the Greens, he moved up on April 19, 1985 on the state list for Roland Kern in the Hessian state parliament. In addition, he ran in the constituency of Frankfurt am Main V , where he received 14.2% of the vote. With the premature dissolution of the state parliament, his mandate ended on February 17, 1987. Before that, from 1982 to April 1985 he was managing director of the Green parliamentary group. In 1984 Engel was a member of the 8th Federal Assembly .
