Jürgen Hönicke

Jürgen Hönicke (born December 4, 1956 ) is a former German football player who played between 1975 and 1981 for BSG Stahl Riesa in the GDR Oberliga , the top division of GDR football .

Athletic career

At the age of nine, Jürgen Hönicke was accepted into the junior department at BSG Stahl Riesa in 1966. In 1975 he reached promotion to the second-rate GDR league with the 2nd team , and for the 1975/76 season he was included in the squad of the league team. With her he played eleven point games, in which he was initially called up in midfield and later as a striker. In the 2nd team he was used in eight GDR league games and scored two goals. In his second league season, Hönicke became a regular player in 1976/77 with 21 stakes in points and also came to his first three league players. At the end of the season Stahl Riesa had to relegate to the GDR league, in which Hönicke defended his regular place in 1977/78 with 19 of 22 league games and four goals. The BSG Stahl was league relay winner and achieved promotion through the promotion round. Hönicke was used seven times in the eight games and contributed two goals to promotion. After he had played seven league games in the 1978/79 season and had scored one goal, he was drafted in May 1979 for 18 months for military service in the National People's Army . After his release he played again from November 1980 with Stahl Riesa in the league. He scored his mandatory goal in the first game, but after three missions he was injured and only played twice as a substitute in the second half of the season. Riesa rose again after the 1980/81 season, but immediately regained promotion. Hönicke was only involved with eight point games and three goals as well as one promotion game.

He then left BSG Stahl Riesa and joined the GDR league club TSG Gröditz , where he played two more seasons. In 1982/83 he was used in 21 of 22 league games and was TSG's top scorer with seven goals. 1983/84 he played his last season in the GDR-wide game operation. He played another 15 GDR league games and scored three more goals. After TSG then relegated from the GDR league, the 28-year-old Hönicke did not return to higher-class football. His record shows 44 league games with five goals, 71 GDR league point games with 19 goals and eight appearances in the promotion rounds with two goals.
