Jürgen Herbst (born June 30, 1939 in Horn, Austria ) is a German-speaking pop singer who released records in the 1960s. With four titles he was able to place himself in the German hit lists.
biography
Jürgen Herbst grew up with his family in Lower Austria . His father was at home in classical music and played the trombone. At the end of the Second World War , the family moved to Frankfurt am Main . In 1955, Herbst began an apprenticeship as a baker, inspired by his grandfather, who had worked as a baker. In his spare time, Jürgen Herbst sang and played the accordion with a music trio, and he also took part in several young talent competitions in the hit industry, where he won several times. Then in 1964 the talent scouts of the German branch of the US record company Columbia Records , the CBS Schallplatten GmbH in Frankfurt, became aware of the 24-year-old.
After a successful audition, Herbst received a record deal with the intention of building him up as a competitor to Ronny , who had made a successful debut at Telefunken with his western ballads. In August 1964, CBS released the first single with Jürgen Herbst. On the A-side, Herbst sang the title Oh my Sweetheart Rosmarie in the style of Ronny . Although Herbst did not have the volume of votes of its competitor, the audience showed interest and with the sales figures ensured that the Tennessee song was placed 25th by the specialist journal Musikmarkt . It remained the best chart placement for Jürgen Herbst, although he sang records for ten years. Of his 15 records, only the titles Ein Stern geht auf (35th), Goodbye black rose (37th) and The way back to home (29th) reached the top 40 at Musikmarkt. His last single was released in autumn 1973 with the record company Polydor after the end of 1970 the contract with CBS had expired.
Jürgen Herbst continued to work as a baker and opened his own bakery in 1974. In 1984 he moved to Upper Bavaria , where he took over a bakery in Töging am Inn .
