Jürgen Koebke

Jürgen Koebke (born November 3, 1945 in Cologne ; † February 23, 2012 there ) was a German anatomist . From 2002 to 2010 he was the managing director of the Anatomical Institute of the Medical Faculty of the University of Cologne .

Life

Koebke, the son of a general practitioner , attended the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Gymnasium in Cologne and studied biology in Cologne from 1965 after his military service . In 1973 he was promoted to Dr. rer. nat. PhD .

From 1974 Koebke worked as a scientific assistant in the Cologne Anatomical Institute. In 1977 he went to Bernhard Tillmann in Kiel , whose anatomical teaching was shaped by Wolfgang Bargmann (anatomist) . In 1978 Koebke began a second degree in medicine and passed the first state examination in 1981.

In 1983 Koebke took over a professorship at the Anatomical Institute of the University of Cologne and became head of the functional anatomy and biomechanics working group . His main areas of work were the topographical and clinical anatomy of the musculoskeletal system , implantology and endoprosthetics .

From 1985 to 1992 he took over the university course counseling and from 1992 to 2003 he was the first dean of the medical faculty of the University of Cologne.

From 2002 to 2010 he was managing director of the anatomical institute of the medical faculty of the University of Cologne.

Jürgen Koebke published around 250 papers and around 30 book chapters.

He retired in April 2011.

Koebke committed suicide on February 23, 2012. A few days earlier, significant irregularities in the burial of body donors at his former institute had become public. It is not known whether and to what extent he was personally at fault. After his death there were public expressions of mourning in front of the anatomical institute. He left behind his wife and four daughters.

Jürgen Koebke was buried in the Lövenich cemetery in Cologne (hall 4).
