Jürgen May (politician)

Jürgen May (born February 12, 1950 in Walldorf ) is a Hessian politician ( SPD ) and was a member of the Hessian state parliament from 1988 to 2008 .

education and profession

After graduating from high school in 1968, May studied teaching biology / chemistry and worked as a teacher from 1973.

politics

He is a member of the SPD and was chairman of the SPD sub-district of Groß-Gerau from 1997 to 2003 .

From 1977 to 2008 he was a member of the Groß-Gerau district council, from 1985 to 2001 chairman of the SPD district parliamentary group and from 2001 to the last district chairman.

May had been a member of the Hessian state parliament since July 31, 1988, when he replaced his fellow party member Erwin Lang , and chaired the committee for environmental issues from February 10, 1998 to April 4, 1999 and the budget committee from April 5, 2003 He was deputy chairman of the budget committee from April 5, 1995 to February 1998 and of the sub-committee for expellees, resettlers, refugees and reparations from April 5, 1991 to April 1994. He was elected in the 1991 , 1995 and 1999 state elections in the constituency of Groß-Gerau II and in 2003 , when he was defeated by the CDU candidate Rudolf Haselbach in the constituency, elected via the SPD state list. For the state elections in 2008 , he decided not to run again.
