Jürgen Mayer (* 1964 in Bad Kreuznach ) is a German radio - presenter , journalist and author .

Life

After high school and community service , Mayer volunteered at the Allgemeine Zeitung in Mainz and then worked for two years as a local editor for the Idsteiner edition of the Wiesbadener Tagblatt . He then moved to the state studio in Mainz as a permanent freelancer for what was then Südwestfunk (SWF), where he worked as a reporter and presenter for the waves SWF1 and SWF4 .

Since April 1995 he has presented the programs “Frühhreif” and “Sonderbar” on the new WDR radio station 1 Live . At the end of 2000 he moved to WDR 2 . There he presented the programs “Morgenmagazin” and “Zwei am Sonntag” for many years. Together with Steffi Neu, he has been presenting the open-air concert at "WDR 2 für eine Stadt", the WDR's largest public event, since 2011. In 2000 he took over the moderation of the events on the main stage of the open-air festival Rock am Ring . Since July 2016, he has moderated the morning broadcast on WDR 2 once a month from Sunday to Sunday, and since 2017 only from Monday to Friday.

In August 2009 and August 2010, Mayer traveled all over Germany as a reporter for the WDR2 campaign “Herr Mayer investigates” in order to research the listeners' tasks live on the station .

In April 2002 he moved to Mallorca to report from there as a freelance Spain correspondent for various ARD channels. During his stay in Mallorca he hosted Mallorca 95.8 Das Inselradio and stage shows with numerous international guests. Together with his wife Christina, he has presented his own show "Mayers & Friends - Die Sonntagsshow" since 2004. His first book about the Balearic Island was published in March 2015 .

For the radio program SWR4 Rhineland-Palatinate, Mayer has been writing and producing the comedy figure "Der Friseur" since 1992 , making it one of the longest-lived comedy figures on German radio.
